So for the last in this set of garden delights, I'm going to share a delight that I hope will be a delight to come...
These tiny, barely visible, seedlings are carrots. We sowed them about 2 weeks ago, and I had given up hope of seeing them again! We've not really been successful with carrots since we lived in Nottingham 10 years ago, but I am determined not to be beaten, so I'm trying again. There is nothing quite like the taste of a carrot freshly pulled from the back garden, is there?
Our soil is quite heavy clay, so not best suited to root vegetables! Every year we add more sand, compost and grit, and hopefully one year, we will have reached the perfect mix. I can still taste the carrot soup we made all those years ago...
