We are gaining momentum as we work through my top 11 designs from A Stitch in Time 2. Today's post takes us from 5 up to 3. If you missed the earlier posts in the series you will find them here: Dressing up Part 1 and Dressing up Part 2.
There's another twinset in my garment selection today... I didn't realise that I absolutely, totally and utterly, needed a twinset! Apparently I do.
5: Fair Isle Twinset

I really like the squareness of the neckline on the jumper part of this twinset. The box sleeveheads are fabulous as well! This set has the handy advantage of having interchangeable sleeves. So if you want a long-sleeved jumper or short-sleeved cardigan, you can just swap them around (just being aware that adding longer sleeves will require more yarn). I'm wearing the 32-34" sample, which is a little short on me, so I'll choose the 36-38" size when I come to make this for myself.

This picture reminds me of first days at school - all standing to attention in new clothes!! Clearly, I need a larger size in the cardigan when I come to make this. Sitting in my office today, and it's pretty cold in here, I am dreaming of having two layers of lovely warm wool to keep me snug. Better get knitting.
4: Tri-Cable Stitch Jumper
Oh be still my heart, how I love these top 4 patterns...

I would absolutely not have said that I was a girl who wore bows. I don't wear bows. I am in many, many ways a really un-girly girl. I never wear make-up, I live in my jeans, and I played with Lego as a child.
But I can't avoid the fact that this cardigan stole my heart, and I wouldn't change anything about it. I'm wearing the size 32-34" sample, and if for nothing other than the extra length, I would probably go for the 36-38" for me. There's plenty of stretch in these stitch patterns though, isn't there?

I'm working on a project from A Stitch in Time 2 in that picture - more on that on Friday... I love how the red of the J&S jumper weight looks against the green of this beautiful cardigan, which is knitted in Shilasdair 4ply (link to Loop in London). I recently used this on my nephew's baby blanket. It was beautiful to knit with, and comes in a range of really pretty semi-solid colours.
3: Lady's Jumper Cardigan

I want this cardigan, I want it now, and I want it in this exact yarn: Excelala 4ply in Persian Grey. I want to wear it tomorrow, and I'm not sure I want to take it off to go to bed. (You wouldn't believe how hard I'm trying not to be too-crazy-gushy about these patterns.)
The sample is the 30-32" chest, and you can see that I'm experiencing some pretty major stretch to get it over my 38 inches! But I love how well it fits around my neck and shoulders. I think I'll be taking some tips from the 'Fit and Finish' chapter to get the best fit in all areas. I will start from the second size pattern (34-36") and work in some extra ease in the bust region.
This was one of those patterns that provided some grading challenges when we were working on the book. The stitch pattern is wide, and we wanted to keep to using whole repeats to maintain the integrity of the design. The solution we reached means that the first, third and fifth sizes are graded in the normal way, by adding extra stitches. The second and fourth sizes are graded for the inbetween points by larger needles. The Excelana yarn works really well for this type of solution, as its wooliness means that the stitches puff and fill out, meaning that a wider than normal range of needle size works really well.
So, we are nearly there folks! There are just two patterns left to share with you. I'll be posting about them on Friday, as tomorrow will be the first post in the Curiouser and Curiouser Quiltalong series.
Many thanks to Susan for her lovely photographs of me (All photos are copyright of Susan Crawford). If you want to get your hands on a copy of the book, you can find it here: A Stitch in Time 2.
